HBD-2 (Human Beta defensin 2), Human Recombinant, E.coli

Based on molecular structures, Defensins have been divided into three major groups: alpha (α), beta (β) and theta (θ). They function as anti-microbial components of the innate immune system. Also, Beta defensins include human beta defensins (HBD) 1, 2, 3 and 4. Human β-defensin-2 (HBD-2) is a 41 amino acid peptide originally described in psoriatic skin lesions and is present in the skin, respiratory and gingival epithelia, oral mucosa, stomach, intestines and renal tubular epithelial cells. HBD-2 is a cationic antimicrobial peptide (CAP) found in the skin and has potent antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, to a lesser extent, Gram-positive bacteria. Moreover, HBD-2 is an antimicrobial peptide with broad-spectrum activity against various pathogens and prevents proliferation of Candida species in vitro.
Description Beta Defensin-2 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 41 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 4.3 kDa.
The BD-2 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
Synonyms BD-2, hBD-2, Defensin beta 2, Skin-antimicrobial peptide 1, SAP1, DEFB4, DEFB102, DEFB2, DEFB4P, Beta-defensin 2.
Source Escherichia Coli.
Amino Acid Sequence GIGDPVTCLK SGAICHPVFC PRRYKQIGTC GLPGTKCCKK P.
Purity >96% as determined by SDS-PAGE and HPLC
Formulation Sterile Filtered White lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder.
The Human BD-2 was lyophilized from a 0.2µm filtered concentrated (1mg/ml) solution containing 20mM PB pH-7.4 and 130mM NaCl.
Stability The lyophilized form of the protein is stable at room temperature for 3 weeks and at -20°C for at least 2 years from the date of receipt. Upon reconstitution, the protein should be stored at 4°C for no more than 7 days. The protein is stable at -20°C for six months. For long term storage, please store at -80°C and the addition of a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) is recommended. Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Biological Activity Determined by the ability to chemoattract human dendritic immature cells at a concentration of 10-100ng/ml.
Solubility It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Beta Defensin-2 in sterile 18MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Usage LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. Not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
