TNF-alpha | Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha, human
Tumour Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF alpha), is an inflammatory cytokine produced by macrophages/monocytes during acute inflammation and is responsible for a diverse range of signalling events within cells, leading to necrosis or apoptosis. The protein is also important for resistance to viral infection and cancers. TNF-α is also involved in lipid metabolism, and coagulation. TNF-α exerts many of its effects by binding, as a trimer, to either a 55 kDa cell membrane receptor termed TNFR-1 or a 75 kDa cell membrane receptor termed TNFR-2. Both these receptors belong to the so-called TNF receptor superfamily.
Full Name | Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha Human Recombinant |
Synonyms | TNF-alpha, Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 2, TNF-a, Cachectin, DIF, TNFA, TNFSF2. |
Source | E. coli |

Molecular Weight | Tumor Necrosis Factor-α Human Recombinant was produced in E. coli as a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 158 amino acids (157 amino acids of the mature human TNF-alpha and an N-terminal methionine) and shown to have a molecular mass of 17.5 kDa. |
Purity | >95% as determined by SDS-PAGE and HPLC |
Endotoxin | Endotoxin level was found to be ≤ 0.1 ng/µg(1EU/µg) by a LAL gel clot method. |
Formulation | Lyophilized from a 1xPBS filtered with a membrane (0.2 µm). |
Reconstitution | To reconstitute the protein, add sterile water to the lyophilized protein and make a preparation with a concentration ≥0.1mg/ml. The preparation can be diluted into other appropriate buffers if necessary. Cautions should be taken to avoid bacterial growth, resulting in potential contamination with endotoxin. |
Stability | Once lyophilized, the protein is stable at room temperature (≈3 weeks) and at -20°C (≥ 2 years from the date of receipt).Upon reconstitution, it can be stored at 4°C (≤ 7 days) or at -20°C (≤ 6 months). For long term storage, please store at -80°C and the addition of a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) is recommended.Avoid frequent freeze-thaw cycles. |
Biological Activity | The Specific Activity is >5.0x107 IU/mg as determined by the cytolysis of murine L929 cells in the presence of Actinomycin D. |
Usage | FOR LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. Not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. |
