EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), Human Recombinant, E.coli
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a single-chain polypeptide of 53 amino acids, which was a known mitogen for neural stem and progenitor cells (NS/NPCs) in the central nervous system (CNS), and purified from the mouse submandibular gland. EGF maintaining tissue homeostasis, as it regulates epithelial cell proliferation, growth, differentiation, and migration. It can be found in various normal tissues and body fluids, including the skin, mucosa, tears, cornea, saliva, semen and fluids secreted by the duodenal glands. In the normal rodent brain, EGF promotes their proliferation and migration in the subventricular zone (SVZ). whereas in vitro, it maintains NS/NPCs in the proliferative state.
Full Name | Epidermal Growth Factor Human Recombinant |
Synonyms | EGF, URG, Urogastrone. |
Source | E. coli |
Amino Acid Sequence | NSDSECPLSH DGYCLHDGVC MYIEALDKYA CNCVVGYIGE RCQYRDLKWW ELR. |
Molecular Weight | Epidermal Growth Factor Human Recombinant was produced in E. coli as a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 53 amino acids and shown to have a molecular mass of 6.2 kDa. |
Purity | >95% as determined by SDS-PAGE and HPLC |
Endotoxin | Endotoxin level was found to be ≤ 0.1 ng/µg(1EU/µg) by a LAL gel clot method. |
Formulation | Lyophilized from a 1xPBS filtered with a membrane (0.2 µm). |
Reconstitution | To reconstitute the protein, add sterile water to the lyophilized protein and make a preparation with a concentration ≥0.1mg/ml. The preparation can be diluted into other appropriate buffers if necessary. Cautions should be taken to avoid bacterial growth, resulting in potential contamination with endotoxin. |
Stability | Once lyophilized, the protein is stable at room temperature (≈3 weeks) and at -20°C (≥ 2 years from the date of receipt).Upon reconstitution, it can be stored at 4°C (≤ 7 days) or at -20°C (≤ 6 months). For long term storage, please store at -80°C and the addition of a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) is recommended.Avoid frequent freeze-thaw cycles. |
Biological Activity | The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of proliferation of murine BALB/c 3T3 cells (measured by 3H-thymidine uptake) is < 0.1 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of 1 x 10,000,000 Units/mg. |
Usage | FOR LABORATORY RESEARCH USE ONLY. Not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. |
